About Us
Established in 2002, Blue Ledge Farm is located in Salisbury, Vermont. It is a first-generation, grass-based, Animal Welfare-Approved family farm that milks 125 goats and produces 11 types of fresh, semi-aged, and aged goat cheese. The farm's mission and focus are always on sustaining a high-quality, consistent product with lots of attention and gentle handling.
Practices
Blue Ledge employs a range of sustainable farming and animal welfare practices, including silvopasture grazing, manure composting, no-till grasses, and extended two-year lactations for lower impact on animals. One-third of the farm's power use is subsidized by roof-mounted solar panels. Blue Ledge cheese travels on established, weekly trucking routes to help cut back on fossil fuel use for delivery, and the business car is a plug-in hybrid. Even the packaging, including the retail packs, box liners, and ice packs, is 100% recyclable. Finally, the Blue Ledge team donates any cheese seconds to a local food shelf.
